Strong leaders are an important aspect of any business to function, but logistics management requires unique leadership capabilities. It is because logistics has a large investment for most companies, a strong leader must have innovative solutions, and optimize logistics and supply chain strategy and operations to have a competitive advantage.
Understand the market —
The first and most important strategy I follow with my colleagues is that I am always investing time in understanding what my market is. If you want to be a king you should always know everything about your kingdom and where you want to rule.
Information is always a key factor for a leader. We should understand the business and always stay up to date with new technologies and processes. Knowing about other company’s operations, benchmark the best supply chain practices also helps to ensure that your supply chain is running smoothly.
Always follow-up with each step —
Following-up is the one thing that needs to be constant in a leader’s tenure to make sure that everything is running smoothly and the deliveries get to where they need. So, I make sure that I am always involved from the start until the very end so that if a problem arises, I’ll be able to find solutions and avoid complications. Follow-up helps you to maintain an efficient work atmosphere.
See the big picture —
Being a successful leader in logistics requires having a global perspective of all operations. A logistics process involves many different stages. Only by seeing the big picture, you will be able to guide your team through each phase and ensure the operation is integrated and communication is effective from start to end.
Encourage Recognition —
When individuals and teams work above and beyond expectations to achieve great results, celebration and recognition are how you encourage continued commitment to the organization’s vision, mission, and goals. It is very important for the leader to value its team members and always keep them in an enthusiastic space. It is how excellence is encouraged over time, and how it stays strong even in times of high production volume and stress. This will help you to cope up with your team even at the time of heavy workload.
Delegate & Empower —
The best strategy to engage your team is to empower them by delegating greater responsibility. This will make them feel wanted in the organization. It can be exciting to be entrusted with a position of responsibility, so if something makes you feel a sense of self-worth, give that self-worth to others on your team. Find areas where you can give people the responsibility and, importantly, the authority to get things done. They will be encouraged to engage themselves in the best way possible.
